Investigation of the role of ACA10 in pathogen defense in Arabidopsis

R-like genes such as SNC1 confer an activated defense response to avirulent pathogens as well as a characteristic phenotype in certain ecotypes of Arabidopsis thalania. BON1 is a negative regulator ofSNC1, ACA10 has been found to be co-expressed with BON1. Also, one of the ACA10 protein’s homologs ACA2 co-purified with the BON1 protein. ACA10 was previously identified as the COMPACT INFLORESCENCE1 (CIF1) gene whose mutant allele cif1-1 caused a lack of inflorescence internode elongation in the shoot as well as leaf curling and late flowering. I began mapping the R-like modifier ofACA10 using PCR-based positional cloning and performed various pathogen resistance tests to determine if the cif1-1 mutation actually induces disease resistance.
