Investigation of Genetic Variation in Omission of Second Division Gene in Glycine

This summer I investigated a gene that plays a role in Meiosis II. My goal was to find it in soybean, so that synthetic polyploids could eventually be made. I learned a lot of new science techniques this summer, such as; PCR, RT-PCR, RNA extraction, how to use computer programs that helped me with my research, FISH, and how to write a proposal and abstract, and more. My mentor, Sue Sherman-Broyles, made the experience unforgettable because she taught me a lot about research and grad school, and she was very patient with me. This program has opened my eyes to grad school, and I now know that I want to apply to grad school.
