David Stern, BTI President and CEO
Thank you for visiting the Boyce Thompson Institute (BTI) website, a virtual space where you can connect with and learn about the many things that go on in our laboratories and facilities. BTI is unique in being an independent, nonprofit plant research organization that reaps collaborative benefits from its affiliation with and location at Cornell University.
I invite you to explore our website and learn more about our fascinating discoveries, exciting educational programs, productive growing houses, and more. BTI boasts top-notch faculty expertise and state-of-the-art facilities, which, when combined with the Cornell University affiliation, make it an outstanding venue for plant science discovery.
In addition to its passion for research, BTI is also committed to informing the public about its activities, and to providing encouragement for the next generation of plant scientists. Our Center for Plant Science Teaching and Learning is a veritable hub of activity. Every summer BTI plays host to students from around the country during an eight-week summer internship program and research experience. BTI hopes to seed a deeper societal appreciation for scientific research by inspiring enthusiasm and knowledge in undergraduate and high school students through such programs.
In 2014 we celebrated the ninetieth anniversary of research at BTI. Our founder’s vision, that plant research can contribute to addressing societal issues, has never been more relevant than it is today. Please explore this site to find out more.
