BTI One of Top 25 Best Companies to Work for in New York State

by | Jan 7, 2014

JoshThe Boyce Thompson Institute for Plant Research (BTI) has been named 25th in the ranking of Best Companies to Work For in New York State for 2014. The award, developed in partnership with New York State Society for Human Resource Management (NYS-SHRM), The Business Council of New York, Best Companies Group, and Journal Multimedia Corporation, is a distinctive program that evaluates and ranks the best places of employment based on employee satisfaction and engagement and workplace practices and policies.

“Over the last few years, BTI leadership has been engaged in an open conversation with our researchers and staff on defining success for our research institute. A major goal of our recent evolution was creating a work environment that nurtures creativity, collaboration, and support. Through this dialogue, we have continued to work closely with staff to develop long-term strategic goals in every corner of the Institute. We believe that staff satisfaction is the key to maintaining an innovative research environment. To that end, we have embraced a system of employee support that fosters work/family balance, nurtures individual professional growth, and encourages positive working relationships. On behalf of the staff and the Board of Directors, I am delighted at this timely acknowledgement of our progress,” stated BTI President and CEO Dr. David Stern.

Best Companies to Work For in New York State will release a special publication profiling all 60 winning organizations and their unique employment benefits at its May 6, 2014 award ceremony in Albany, NY. Invited guests will include representatives from higher education, human resources professionals, and staff members from organizations across New York State.

BTI, celebrating its 90th anniversary in 2014, is a public not-for-profit that continues to carry its founder Colonel William B. Thompson’s vision of studying how plants work and meeting modern demands in agriculture, energy, and human health. Recognized internationally for excellence and innovation in plant science, BTI’s laboratories have recently issued publications on understanding how fruit ripens, how fungi assist nutrient uptake in agricultural plants, and how plants’ immunity mechanisms can mimic human immunity. In addition to its 17 research laboratories, BTI’s Center for Plant Science Teaching and Learning hosts an extensive education and outreach program that provides teacher professional development programs, research experience for undergraduates, and educational involvement in the local community.
